I used my laptop for a total of 62 hours
I used my phone for a total of 197 hours.
Again, I am sorry for the delay posting this! I know you guys really wanted to know how what I did this month. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen again next month! Had a lot of things.
This is day 20 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>Anyway, here’s what I did during the month of January!
Triangle Strategy: This is a tactics rpg that I wish I could’ve played more, I like its art and story, as well as the gameplay, but it feels too important to just play while doing something else, so I have not dedicated as much time to it.
I used my laptop for 57 hours
I used my phone for 211 hours
This is day 9 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>Thankfully, I got some vacation time, which allowed me to do do quite a lot, from listening to more podcasts while cleaning up my room, to playing a bunch more videogames, while watching movies too. Regardless, too many things to list, but I will still try.
I also watched quite a bit of movies this time around, and I also made sure to log them on Letterboxd. Here’s some of them
As I mentioned in a previous blogpost, I started to record the playing times of games I own, which should give me quite a bit more data to add here too. For now, let’s start as always.
I read quite a bit of manga this month, right after I did my blog on my favorites of the year, one of these also became a favorite of mine.
This list doesn’t really track my Nintendo Switch usage of course, which was quite high during my holiday vacations. Regardless, I would say the amount of games I listed is enough of an idea, so here’s the rest of devices I used!
I used my laptop for a total of 75 hours, and here’s some of what I did!
I used my phone for a total of 174 hours, thanks to the vacational period I guess.
So, yeah, December was quite a busy month right? Remember you can always follow my backloggd to check the games I’ve played!
I feel a little weird right now, I just finished the challenge, but with so many people participating this year, I may as well do it one more time…
This is day 1, of #100DaysToOffload
]]>I decided to write a couple different lists instead of what I did last year where I just shared 5 podcasts and called it a day.
These are just the stats I got from AntennaPod, they recently launched AntennaPodEcho, their response to Spotify Wrapped, and I really liked it. Here are the podcasts I listened to the most for a variety of reasons. Neither of them are bad at all, so you might enjoy them!
Time played: 52 hours.
This show is some of the funniest stuff I listen to regularly, hosted by 3 YouTubers (CDawg, the Anime Man and Garnt) living in Japan, they usually just talk about a variety of topics including, but not limited to: Japanese culture, videogames, traveling, random life stories, anime and manga, among other things.
Time played: 62 hours
This podcast is hosted by two strangers from the internet, AndyTheAndroid and MashTheNewton, they just talk about one game per episode and have little sections for questions, current news and what they’ve been playing. They also talk about what was going on at the time of the game’s release, which is always amusing. I do think their discussions about the games themselves don’t last as long or don’t go as deep as I would like, but it’s still a fun show for me while I do chores and prepare to sleep.
Time played: 85 hours
This is the show I put the most attention to, because it is episodic and has a plot that keeps going every episode. This is a Dungeons and Dragons podcast and the second season features the grandsons of the first season’s protagonists. I think they went a little too dark for my taste this time around, during a certain period, but they recently went back to being more light-hearted and I’m enjoying it a lot again. This show doesn’t fail to make me laugh like crazy; it makes me somewhat annoyed, since I feel like I get stared at during the bus trips to work because of it. Regardless, great hosts and great moments to be had on this one.
Time played: 88 hours
This show features some more prominent figures in the gaming world, Brendon Bigley and Stephen Hilgar (yeah, I didn’t actually know who they were at first either). They will talk about the games they’ve been playing recently and will always bring up a ton of gems and talk about them in ways I would never expect. My favorite episodes are those focused on a single game though. They recently did Majora’s Mask, but they’ve talked about Chrono Trigger, Ocarina of Time and many others, and they will go deep into all of them, talking about theories, memories and what the games made them feel. They yearly episodes where they make their GOTY list is also of epic proportions, lasting over 5 hours and such
Time played: 130 hours
This podcast is great, it’s a fictional radio show from a town where everything just happens and it’s just part of everyday life. From non-existing Angels, to parallel dimensions and conspiracies of all kinds, as well as the fantastic Weather forecast of every episode. Just go blind and start from wherever you feel like doing so, the audio is absolutely great and the host’s voice is simply superb. I listen to it before going to sleep (I use a 20 minutes sleep timer) and it does the job very well.
Here are some podcasts I really enjoyed, but they might have been a little too short, or maybe I just didn’t listen to enough episodes, or I listened to a whole season, but it wasn’t enough to show up at the top. Regardless, they’re good!
This is a history podcast that talks about the different revolutions in the world. Every season is an entire series focusing on a single Revolution and the events leading to them. It really gets down to the details but it was a great way to learn about past in a very entertaing manner for me, I highly recommend it.
A really weirdly narrated story that is just too interesting to miss. I haven’t finished it yet but its format is quite unique and interesting to listen to. Three narrators and a very strange world. Just give it a listen honestly.
Real life stories about bizarre, spooky and weird events of life, the presentation is just amazing. I only listened to one episode but I feel like as soon as I start more I’m gonna get hooked. Maybe soon I’ll start this one. I just have a huge backlog right now, and not enough time.
I listened to a couple “series” of this podcast, it’s all about finding the scene that makes the movie what it is. Not a movie review podcasts, but something else, and it’s great. The hosts really know what they’re talking about and I just enjoy their voices a lot too.
Time travel science fiction drama. A scientist from the 21st century ends up stuck in the 1940s, World War 2 is still a thing, and a fantastic story develops from there. Great characters and a remarkable use of the time travel trope, feels really grounded and the format is great, as the story is shown in recorded tapes, not always in the right order, and it makes the story a lot more engaging. Don’t miss out on this one, please.
This is my favorite true-crime podcast, pretty well researched. There are many true crime podcasts out there but since I like to listen to them while sleeping, I find the usage of random sounds or stuff like phone recordings to annoy me a lot. This podcast hosted by Nina Innsted is quite light on SFX and her voice is very soothing for me, so I love it.
Of course, there’s a plethora of other shows I listened to quite often too but they’re just clearly there so I don’t want to say much about them. Heres a short list:
There are other niche podcasts that I also like but I gotta go sleep.
This is day 86 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>Last month I didn’t listen to as many podcasts as I usually do, it was only around 45 hours of content this time around.
It was more of the usual stuff, such as Welcome to Night Vale, Dungeons and Daddies and Waveform.
Ars Paradoxica was the only (old)new show I listened to, I started it years ago but I decided to go back to it from the beginning and I am liking it a lot. Its a sci-fi drama about a physicists, Sally Grissom, who ends up travelling back in time by mistake. Its really good!
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes: I went blind on this movie and I was pleasantly surprised, you don’t need to know much about the universe other than it is a prequel and the main character is the villain of the original trilogy, it was very interesting and the Hunger Games were pretty action packed too, it delivered, in my opinion.
Because of my new job I haven’t had as much time to do anything for myself, so my time using my personal devices got drastically reduced, even more than before, since using my phone was necessary during my internship. Its a nice change of pace to be honest.
I only used my computer for 60 hours this month. Honestly, I spent a lot more time on my phone and with my family watching TV and stuff.
I kinda forgot to install Activity Watch, so I don’t have the full stats this time around. I’ll just sort the apps from most used to least used
There are many things I’ve been meaning to write about, as I mentioned in my previous post, and I only have 17 more posts to go this year. Let’s hope for the best!
This is day 83 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>I didn’t read that much manga lately, only the first mention here is new and its fairly short anyway.
Since the year is approaching its end I also kinda wanted to read some more. I managed to finish two books!
The Mote in God’s Eye: This was a great read, very imaginative and well written, classic sci-fi at its best, and a fantastic take on what a first contact would look like in the future. I started it in September, and since then I just had a last third to finish, and it was a joy. For some reason I kept imagining the events happening in a TV show in the style of the original Star Trek show, very bright colors on high quality film, kind of cringe sometimes but with some nice dialogues and scenes. I don’t know, but I liked it a lot.
Project: Hail Mary: This book is a lot different than the previous one, first of all, it starts out at a first person narration, and the main character wakes up with ammnesia. So, a very different start compared to the multiple characters and perspectives going on in The Mote. Humanity has found a very interesting threat to their existence, and the only hope seems to be light years away from us. Thankfully, that treath is also just what we needed to get there. There is a lot of hard sci-fi here, numbers and physics and fun stuff that my engineering brain kinda gets but not really. I haven’t read much of the genre honestly, but I may check out The Martian later, from the same author.
I used my laptop for a total of 67 hours, at least on my Linux side.
I used my Phone for around 207 hours. I am actually surprised, seems like a lot. But I can explain!
Looks like it all balances out a little bit, maybe? Maybe I can’t explain… You got me, I don’t want to bother doing so.
A lot of switch games, two books, a little bit of podcasts, still sleeping to Welcome to Night Vale. Somehow the Magnus Archives still has more episodes played. Everything is great. I may get a proper job at the company I’m doing my internship at, I just want to get this over with and do enough blogposts before the year ends. Bye!
This is day 77 of #100DaysToOffload.
]]>When it comes to digital books, its honestly not very hard, all you need is Calibre to manage everything in a really good way, it is a bit of a complicated program for some people, but once you get the gist, it only takes a couple clicks to import your books to it and download their metadata automatically.
When it comes to audiobooks though, it is a little more complex. I recently acquired a couple of audiobooks on Humble Bundle and while it was a steal for the price, I was a bit sad that when I got them, the files were very bare bones, no metadata at all, and the filenames were just a random string of numbers and the chapter numer to differentiate them. Not the best thing ever.
Thankfully, Kid3 exists. This is the tool I use to just set the metadata of the files properly. It is designed for music but it still works really well. I like to combine it with Thunar’s bulk rename tool, because Kid3 can just take its metadata from the filename and viceversa. Basically, if an audio filename is something like Ringworlds - Larry Niven - Chapter 1.mp3
you can just use Kid3 with and “import from filename” with the format %{album} - %{artist} - %{title}
or whatever else. It makes it all very easy.
The only troublesome thing that might show up, is you being too nitpicky and wanting to include the title of each chapter in the audio filename and metadata. If that’s the case, I guess I still have some homework to do. I could probably script something to do it for me one of these days.
After all is done, all that’s left is to play it! I recently found Cozy, which seems like a really neat audiobook player for Linux, I will stick to listening on my phone, but I still wanted to share it if any of you’re interested.
This is day 66 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>The most noticeable for you, or maybe not noticeable at all, is that I changed my website domain! it used to be joelchrono12.xyz
and its now joelchrono.xyz
. It is fairly easy to forget, since I’m sure most of you only type the first couple letters and hit enter (or read this from an RSS feed).
So yeah, it should now be easier to type and remember. Its quite wild compared to how much I struggled back when I started this blog, since I didn’t have any money to spare on this.
Regardless, I should be going with what I consumed this month!
Just like last time, most of the podcasts I listen to are the same, but here are some I started or discovered lately.
Eye of The Duck: This is a movie talk podcasts where they try to find the “Eye of The Duck” scene. Scenes on a movie that define the whole of it, such an interesting premise and also fantastic hosts, I have listened to their miniseries on Toy Story and the “Of The Dead” zombie movies. Very entertaining.
Fall of Civilizations: Pretty much everyone seems to know this podcast already, its title says it all! I only listened to the first episode so far, but it was fantastic.
Radio Rental: This is a podcast about weird stories and experiences that happened to people, it has an interesting format and the couple stories I’ve heard are so random, its hard to believe they actually happened.
I didn’t read as much manga this month for multiple reasons. Including reading a text book and trying to not use my phone as much.
Since I am still not done with my internship, and my playtime on my switch, my computer usage is very low still.
I used my laptop for around 45 hours this month.
I used my phone for 200 hours, 17 less than last month, which probably transferred to my Switch…
I am quite happy I managed to write just a little more this month, but I have to pretty much write one blogpost every 2 days from now if I want to finish the 100 Days To Offload challenge, it should be possible! Wish me luck
This is day 63 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>I listened to around 90 hours of Podcasts! a third of that is Welcome to NightVale, which I sleep to, so maybe I actually listened to only half of that. Most of the time I listen to the same stuff, so here are some different things I wanted to recommend.
Avatar: Braving the Elements: Fantastic podcast featuring Dante Basco (Zuko) and Janet Varney (Korra) doing a recap of the Last Airbender animated show. This podcast is fantastic and brings me so much joy. I am currently listening to their episode on the Winter Solstice two parter.
Eye of the Duck: This is an episode about the most important scene on a movie. Its from the same family of shows as Into The Aether, the hosts are quite great. I listened to their episode on Night Of The Living Dead (I have a thing for horror movie reviews) and I had a great time.
Green Blood: This manga is located during the end of the civil war, with everyone looking to enjoy the American Dream. The quest of a pair of brothers looking for revenge. Discretion is advised, it is quite graphic and real, but it doesn’t get to be “edgy” for the sake of it. The art is magnificent and the story is worthy of a read, if you can take some strong language and scenes I think this is a very unique setting for a manga with many lessons to be learned out of it.
One Outs: A few months ago I watched the anime, and I was hooked. I decided to read the manga from the start back then, but I kinda stopped. Last month I decided to resume my reading and I am very happy I did. The story and the bet go even bigger, and its actually quite sick. A few things stop making sense, but the overall plot is great, a good read, especially weird in sports manga, although so far I’ve only read good sports manga.
Hakaijuu: Now this is what an edgy manga looks like. It starts out pretty strong as a romance manga turned into survival apocalypse with huge monsters coming out of the ground. But it just keeps going and going without any idea of what to do. Horrible people become protagonists and heroes, the monsters keep getting bigger, my suspension of disbelief struggles here. If you like Godzilla, The Walking Dead, Attack on Titan, The Thing, and Power Rangers, this is probably for you. The art is too good for a series like this, seriously, too good. If your mind is bored this is good enough I guess.
With my PSP and Switch lacking proper ways to track my usage other than estimates, I can’t really say how much I’ve played stuff, whatever, my laptop and phone remain reliable.
I used my laptop for 30 hours, A lot of that time was spent moving stuff around to my PSP since I was into a bit of a phase once again, writing a blogpost about it.
I used my phone for around 212 hours, as you may be able to tell, due to my internship I spend more time not at home. It is how it is
I am done! The year is coming to an end in only a few more months, and I am still a little behind, but hey, this is still day 56 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>The usual suspects, Trash Taste, Welcome to Night Vale, Late Night Linux and Dungeons and Daddies.
The only new stuff would be Talk Ville, a podcast hosted by Tom Weiling (Clark Kent) and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) rewatching Smallville, it is quite fun and nostalgic, very good stuff and its nice to see their thoughts on what they did 20 years ago.
A lot of manga was read last month.
I only used my computer for 30 hours this month. I must be very good at keeping myself in control right?
Truth is, I got a Nintendo Switch! the Tears of The Kingdom edition, as you may have noticed in the Gaming section…
I used my phone for a total of 205 hours, so yeah…
Alright, so yeah, the Nintendo Switch is great and Zelda is awesome, I don’t know what else to say, read the manga I suggested, play videogames, send me your Nintendo friend ID and lets play Rocket League or whatever.
This is day 53 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>June was quite busy, it was my birthday once again, I bought a few nice things for myself, I got some nice gifts and I also went to the movies a couple of times. So here we go.
Gyo: Junji Ito got mentioned for a bit in Trash Taste, while talking about the horror genre in movies, anime and manga. The plot is about a bunch of sea life, from fish to sharks and squids, that come out of the sea and invade Japan, using some weird cyborg insect legs from unkown origin, to crawl around. Its so random and kinda gruesome, I just had to see how the story moved forward. Its such a weird thing that exists. It was entertaining, but kinda gross, I almost wanted to drop it and not even mention I read it, like most works of this mangaka.
Telework Yotabanashi: I actually read this in May, but I forgot to mention it there. This is a pretty short romance manga about a couple of regular people that met thanks to working at home during the pandemic. Its sweet and pretty wholesome, I liked it.
Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible: I actually read this in May, again. I completed this manga! It was quite fun, the friendship between the cast was super wholesome and it ended pretty well, its not very long either.
Spider-man Across The Spider-verse: This movie is a masterpiece, I love it, its great, the animation is insance, the action is top-notch, the cinematography is world class and I can’t even begin with the writing of these characters, a couple of plot points felt a bit unrealistic, but this is awesome and I can’t wait for the third movie.
The Flash: This movie is not a masterpiece, but I think its fine, the animation sucked, the action is meh, the cinematography felt like a bunch of PS1 cutscenes and I can’t even begin with the plotholes and non-sensical things that happen here, a couple of moments with Barry’s mom where beautiful, but its not the best and I hope Gunn can make something good out of this universe. Henry Cavill should have stayed but anyways.
I don’t really use my laptop that much nowadays due to work, but here goes nothing…
I used my laptop for around 46 hours total! At least on the Linux side.
My phone on the other hand, got around 166 hours of screen time
As you can see, I have to use Facebook a lot for work, this is because most of the recruiting I do is on social media and Facebook is king here in Mexico, not much I can do about it, other than sticking to the Lite edition to minimize its footprint on my device while also not making it a pain to use, which is sadly the case in the mobile browser version and the wrappers available.
This is day 48 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>So anyway, I’ve been very busy at my internship, is not really what I imagined, I’ve mentioned in my Mastodon account that it has nothing to do with Mechatronics, but I don’t really mind, HR has been quite messy, but also very interesting and fun, I’ve done interviews and witnessed some interesting evaluations of people trying to get higher positions and such, I’ve also walked for hours putting flyers door by door in different cities around mine. Pretty much everyone of my fellow engineers mock me a little bit, but I have to admit I don’t mind doing this at all since its not actually that heavy for me to do, I’ve been used to “hard” work like this for a while.
The part that I hate the most is the online engagement and recruiting, why? Because I have to use Facebook, but I’ll stop for now, this is not about my job, but the media I’ve consumed lately!
I listened to a total of 98 hours of podcasts. Thanks to my internship, I have like 3 hours everyday during commutes and stuff, I have listened to a bit more music lately, but also quite a lot of podcasts!
I didn’t really watched any anime other than keeping up with Gurren Lagann but I didn’t manage to finish it just yet, its gotten a bit too fanservicey which is annoying, but I’ll try to watch until the end.
Weak Hero: This is a manhwa about a pretty smart guy who decides to face the bullies around him and build a reputation for himself, but this is not your regular power fantasy, every character gets quite deep and the protagonists are all quite interesting and complex, there are school gangs, corruption and a lot of fights in this, but it has managed to stay pretty interesting and the plot keeps going strong.
My Wife Is From a Thousand Years Ago: Now this is a Manhua (a chinese comic), and its a pretty funny and wholesome rom-com about a guy who find a girl from a thousand years ago and helps her fit better into society, they get into pretty interesting situations and I get a little bit of diabetes while reading it, so there’s that.
Sakamoto Days: This picked up a bit more, the current arc seems to be about to end, still very fun action and comedy moments too.
I used windows for a while lately because of school homework, but on Linux this is what I did mostly. I used Linux for around 39 hours (you can tell I am not home as much huh).
I used my phone more often than I expected, for around 168 hours.
This is day of #100DaysToOffload
As I’ve said before, work has gotten in my way a little bit more, but I’ve also been too lazy. I will try to catch up this month since I’m actually on vacation now. This is day 47 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>I just had some free time during Eastern which were quite relaxing. I don’t know if I’ll write everything I did but you can get an idea out of this summary.
I listened to a total of 82 hours of podcasts, I would say a fair bit of that was while I slept, since I tend to leave them playing for a while with a sleep timer.
Other podcasts that got at least 3 hours of playtime were Retro Game Time Machine, Self-Hosted, Escape Pod, Trash Taste and Destination Linux.
Gurren Lagann: I heard this one was some people’s favorite anime, so I decided to give it a watch, right now I am at episode 9, and I kinda like how its going. It is a Mecha anime with big robot fights and quite an interesting world to explore, the plot is interesting and characters are a bit of a mixed bag, however I am interested on what’s going on and the stakes and hype is real.
Dead Mount Death Play: I don’t know much about this one, I went pretty much blind, its a fantasy manga that starts out with the Demonlord and the Hero’s final encounter, after an incredibly well animated fight scene, the villain casts a spell that ends up breaking the barrier between dimensions, and clashing with the real world as we know it (reverse Isekai stuff but don’t skip it because of that). I don’t want to say much more, it seems really, really interesting.
One Outs: As I said, after watching the anime I have read some of the manga, but I still don’t reach the point where the anime stops, still, its fun to see the story being told in this medium.
Heavenly Delusion: I had started this one a while ago, I am not sure why I stopped reading it, I realized an anime came out this season, so I decided to keep reading it a bit rather than watching it, even though I have heard a ton of good things about it.
Kingdom: I am still up to date on this one, some heavy stuff is happening right now, you better start this one already before it reaches 800 chapters!
Like last month, gaming took over a bit of my life again, I kept playing Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, Freedom Unite and I also played quite a bit of Minecraft on some my personal server and other SMPs
I used my computer quite a lot less compared to last month, with a total of 135 hours of screen time.
Also, the browser extension for ActivityWatch recently got accepted on the Firefox Add-on store again, so I managed to record a couple of stats from it.
I used my phone for a total of 199 hours, this was quite a lot more than previous times, oops.
I actually got an internship now, I took my time huh, I will probably be unable to blog as often, but maybe since my time will now be shorter, I will actually decided to write quick blogposts instead of playing videogames for 3 hours straight, I recently started watching some videos from the QSMP, a minecraft series featuring creators speaking Spanish, English and now Protuguese, it is pretty fun so far. Until later guys!
This is day 46 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>Other than the regulars, here are some I wanted to shout out:
Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2: I finished this section of chapters, I will honestly stop watching until they get to the end because this is getting ridiculous. I am loving the series but the way its split and its chapters come out have me so confused. Also everything happening is so heartbreaking I kinda want to just stop but I can’t stop watching, so good, just the pacing is kinda messed up, not in the story progression just in real life.
Lycoris Recoil: Absoulutely fantastic original anime with a super wholesome protagonist that takes place in a world where high school girls fight crime and terrorism, and she’s the best of them all. A newcomer gets teamed up with her after she disobeys orders and so begins their adventure. Its premise is quite interesting, but the characters take the show and the story ain’t bad at all. It also got what I consider a satisfying ending which is kinda weird to have. The animations is also insane so watch it for that reason at least.
Giant Beasts of Ars: Another original anime series that started out quite strong but it just didn’t have the time to pan out such a story, I wish it had run for 3 seasons or something because I really felt this world to be almost like Avatar The Last Airbender, very good and interesting, but with a rushed second half that ended up not being that great.
Kaiji - Ultimate Survivor: Kaiji is in debt, he ends up having to gamble and be entertainment for rich dudes, for the chance of his debt being erased and even gaining a huge amount of money. The mental gymnastics of this anime are really high. The protagonist really does his best, but he is actually kind of a regular guy that has to climb his way to the top, unlike Tokuchi who would probably win to everyone in there. Really great stuff that I had to keep watching because I couldn’t wait to see what was next.
One Outs: I actually watched the anime before the manga, the animation is done by Madhouse studios and it shows. I really enjoyed this series which is following the manga’s plot, which I already mentioned, you may wanna watch it this way too, I just wanted to know what was next since it doesn’t cover the full manga, as far as I know. The subtitle of the show is pretty clear about what the show is about: Nobody wins, but I!
I played quite a few games this month, I had never played so much in a while, so its quite interesting to see to be honest. I finished a couple of games I had started a couple years ago, which was quite interesting.
Alright so, as you may be able to tell, this time around my activity tracking is quite unique.
I have to say I also spent a bunch of time on Twitch, because I was listening and watching Monster Hunter streamers which I also kinda played with sometimes so that was very fun.
I feel like I spent a lot of time doing not very useful things, at the same time I have a lot of free time so it is how it is. I should be looking for an internship, this is so sad.
This is day 45 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>Alright, I listened to a variety of different podcasts this time, so there they are!
Pride and Prejudice: This is a classic book that I started reading and listening, but I am still not done with it. Its quite funny to be honest, I just have to give it more time.
First and Only: In the grim darkness of the dark future, there is only WAR! This is a Warhammer novel featuring the Imperial Guard, normal guys trying to survive against demons and aliens thrice their size. But they got tanks and mass, and yeah, I just got started on this one too.
Giant Beasts of Ars: This is the original anime you need. No manga, no spoilers, and an original story that merges Attack on Titan with a world that kinda feels like Avatar: The Last Airbender without elements. Also some weird sci-fi stuff that somehow fits despite everything else looking ancient. Kinda like Breath of the Wild? Idk. But the story is good and characters are good. The show is still airing, so I am not done yet! Sadly the animation is not as great, but its definitely above average.
Lycoris Recoil: A secret organization in Japan uses teen girls to fight crime and keep Tokyo safe. I don’t know how this works, but it does, and the animation is top notch. Nice mistery and action sequences, adorable cast and interesting plot. I am not done with it yet!
This month I used my devices a bit less than the previous one, which I find interesting. To be fair a bit of my time was spent on Windows, where I don’t have m ActivityWatch installed, so maybe I just transitioned my usage from one place to another.
I used my laptop for a total of 154 hours.
I used my device for a total of 171 hours.
That’s pretty much it. I also started playing on a PSP for a bit, but I’ll write about that later, I guess.
This is day 42 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>I listened to podcasts for 73 hours during this month. I actually decided to listen a few podcasts in Spanish, due to the post I wrote about most of my media consumption being not in my native language. They still didn’t make it to the top of my stats this month, but still, nice progress.
Other podcasts I listened to were:
I actually barely read anything. This time, I only read some chapters of series I’ve mentioned before:
This month was a little weird, going back to school only a couple days a week, and an update to one of my favorite games really changed the way I usually use my devices this time.
Used for a total of 204 hours. A bit less than December!
Not a lot to say, this is the first post of February, tomorrow I am travelling, so it is likely that tomorrow I will break my streak, but I still have hope that it won’t be the case.
This is day 32 of #100DaysToOffload

of 2022”, and since I am listening to a podcast right now, I decided to start out with them! I will get around to Books, Movies and the like later, if I consumed enough content for it to be worth it.
Some people don’t see with good eyes at the Linus Tech Tips channel and Linus as a person. And honestly, I kind of get it. But ever since I started listening to the WAN show I can’t help but respect the man as a tech enthusiast, entrepeneur and even as a father, he sticks to his opinions and speaks his mind quite openly. But what I enjoy the most is listening to Luke and his thoughts, which are usually more inline with mine. The dynamic between these two is just awesome. Sometimes they barely talk about Tech News, but that’s fine by me, since they ramble about their life experiences, answer Merch Messages (Their own implementation of Youtube’s Superchats) and give some leaks of upcoming episodes and products from their store (some people think the whole show is a bunch of ads, I don’t mind if it is). The show’s awesome and I enjoy having it in the background or while doing chores.

In terms of length, this is the longest podcast I’ve listened to. As the name implies, it is a Dungeons and Dragons podcast, its humor is a bit too adult for my taste sometimes, but I just could not stop listening at the story of four dads trying to get their sons back from an alternate realm full of fantasy elements and fun characters to meet. The show has a second season which I have not started just yet, but eventually I’ll get to it.

This is a serious one, a true crime story that only recently found some sense of closure. Its the story of the disappearance of Kristin Smart, and how incredibly convoluted the investigation of the case went. Even if there really seems to be a single suspect. Its a really interesting series, which you may want to give a listen to if you are into true crime. The host is Chris Lambert, and he did such a wonderful job, approaching with victims and witnesses in a very respectful manner and professionalism. Full of twists and turns, I am glad I got to know this story that finally reached its end, even if its not a truly happy one.

The most chill gaming podcast there is and also they are on Mastodon!. Brendon and Stephen talk about games they liked, and only games they liked. Finding any negativity in this podcast is pretty much incredible, there is criticism and there are complaints, but they come from the wish from the hosts for the games and developers to succeed and keep improving. They’re one of the ways I keep myself updated on current gaming trends and also I get to, from time to time, discover old gems that spark my interest.

This is my favorite podcast to listen when I just want to listen to random rambles with no order and no reason. Garnt, Joey and Connor are the hosts. They are an anime podcasts that very rarely talks about anime, and they just generally talk about whatever is on their minds. Its full of bad hot takes, life stories and random thoughts. Its awesome, because sometimes I will be paying absolutely no attention and I don’t feel guilty, sometimes weird bits of wisdom and meaningful thoughts will show up, I will have an existential crisis about random things or I will be cringing to an incredibly bad take. It goes from how oranges are the worst citrus fruit, wondering if you can survive a tsunami by getting into a pool, their experiences learning how to drive, tips for travelling to Japan and many other things.

There are a ton of other podcasts I didn’t mention here. Such as The Magnus Archives, or the ton of Linux related podcasts, I quite enjoy them, I just didn’t find them as important for me. TMA was great, but its more of a 2021 podcast for me, even if I enjoyed a ton of the episodes I listened to in 2022. Regardless, I’ll write some more during the following days…
This is day 21 of #100DaysToOffload
]]>I switched to Void Linux this month, and I did not install ActivityWatch for a while due to laziness. The browser extension for ActivityWatch also got broken, so I am unable to specify which websites I visited the most. I will admit quite a few hours of them were on Anime sites. Here is what I got so far.
I used my phone for 207 hours in total.
My computer was on for 144 hours.
I would love to do a better summary for the whole of 2022, so I’ll work on that for tomorrow if possible. Have a Happy New Year people!
Also, this is day 1 of my second run of #100DaysToOffload.
]]>This time I gave another chance to a podcast I got recommended on Mastodon many months ago. 372 Pages We’ll Never Get Back. It’s all about two guys reading books they think they’ll hate. They do it in a very comedic way, and feature some fun segments, like Real or Fanfic, where they try to figure out if they are reading a real segment of the book or not. They also perform parodies and other things that are quite fun. Great humor.
Other than that, I listened to the usual Retro Game Time Machine, Into the Aether, Darknet Diaries among others.
I saw Toy Solders, it had quite an interesting story about a school taken over by terrorists and some troublemaker students trying to survive.
I watched Slumberland because it was in Netflix and wanted something in the background. Its not bad actually, quite funny and for everybody.
Black Panter: Wakanda Forever was awesome, I love Namor, I love the homage to Boseman, it was a very decent movie but I hated some of the CGI in the final “big battle” sequence. I did enjoy the duel between Namor and Shuri though. I recommend.
I watched a korean drama called Twenty Five Twenty One, I mentioned in October, I finished it this month. I enjoyed it a lot and made me quite emotional once I finished it. Thankfully a couple weeks later I am back to normal. Still, its great so give it a go if you’re into romance and coming of age stuff.
I am up to date with season 3 of Mob Psycho 100. It is absolutely fantastic so far. If you have not given Mob a chance you really are missing out in some of the best animation, action and epic fight scenes that Anime has to offer. Not to mention the lovable protagonist and characters which are all great in their own way. I totally recommend it.
I had abandoned My Dress Up Darling for a while but I watched two episodes of it, only the ending left.
I want to at least read 12 books by the end of the year, I had a goal of 30 but there’s no way.
I am reading Denouement by HexDSL, a YouTuber I quite enjoy that used to do Linux on his channel, although he does whatever he likes and I respect that. He started writing a while ago and I kinda like this SF novel of his, very cool so far, I am already at 58%. You can follow me on BookWyrm if you want to see if I can fulfill my goal!
I’ve mostly stuck with what I already love. Because of the World Cup I catched up on a dozen or so chapters of Blue Lock.
Komi Can’t Communicate is getting quite fun with bringing back a certain character with quite a fun plot.
Because of a conversation with @jppelt I ended up trying out one of Junji Ito’s works. He does horror, and what happens in Tomie is indeed quite horrific stuff. I am not a fan at all of gory stuff, but I already started it and I just wanna know what’s even going on. I am trapped and I don’t want to keep going, but I also can’t stop. Read at your own risk.
I used my phone for 168 hours, A LOT less than last month, cool stuff.
I used my laptop for a total of 118 hours during October, a bit more than last time.
I recently switched my hostname and I also moved to a window manager and there was a while where I didn’t setup the autostart of ActivityWatch correctly and it didn’t start until I saw a notification of it not running. This means some of my activity was not tracked. Sad times.
I started and caught up to Your Own Backyard, one of the best documentary series on a case that has never been cold, but has lasted for almost 3 decades, and only recently got a bit of a conclusion. I will not spoil it, its a must listen.
If you are done with the previous true crime podcast, you can go ahead and listen to Bear Brook, another podcast with tons of twists and turns, it gets weirder at every clue, but its all worth it at the end, or is it?
Retro Game Time Machine is a podcast I’ve known about for a while, I actually recommended it more than a year ago. But I listened to it again this month. Its really chill and comfy. It starts with recent gaming news, then travel through time and mention some important events and trends during the time the game came out, and then talk about the game in question, at the end the mention other games they’ve been playing and call it a day.
Korean dramas have taken over my life, send help. Now my sister is making us watch Twenty Five, Twenty One. I have to admit the thing that keeps me going is the fact that it happens in the 90s and pretty much everyone is using Casio G-Shocks. It’s all about a girl who wants to be a fencer (the sport), and become the rival of another fencer she admires. Honestly though, it is quite good! If a bit too dramatic sometimes, like most korean dramas.
I’ve also been watching The Clone Wars series, but I am just following the main arcs and skipping some with some guide I found online.
I think the only movie I watched fully this month was Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. I enjoyed it a lot, almost cried too.
Claymore. It’s sooooo gooood. It seems like there were too many good manga series when it came out and it flew under the radar, but its so worth it. Its about a world filled with monsters known as Yoma who take human forms to disguise themselves. The only ones capable of seeing and defeating them, are known as Claymores, “silver-eyed witches” that are half Yoma, and their name comes from their weapon, big swords indeed. The protagonist is Claire, and her story is worth a read.
The anime didn’t do it justice since it ends halfway through the manga, which has an awesome finale like 100 chapters later.
I didn’t read much else other than keeping up with the rest of ongoing manga I follow.
This month was quite busy, I gotta say. So here’s what happened.
I used my phone for around 240 hours this time around, oof.
I used my laptop for a total of 116 hours during October, kinda crazy.
A very busy month, don’t have time to explain, see ya later!
